Got a haircut in South End for 90¢. Had a light supper. Letter from Mother. Watched TV at night.” South End was the local name of the southern part of town.

In Muscatine on Saturday, January 6, 1951, Dale wrote, “Up at 8 & got breakfast. Took family downtown to the library & paid bills. Bought new lampshades. Watched TV; Army beat Brown in basketball. Slept 3 hours in the afternoon. Kids roller skated in the afternoon. Watched TV at night.” The Army’s Black Knights beat Brown’s Brown Bears, 54 to 49.
