Golden Gloves

In Muscatine on Friday, March 7, 1952, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 – 4:30.  Stan went to Mike’s at night & Helen, Dalene & I went to Bushery’s for evening of TV & visit.  Golden Gloves on TV.  Got stuck getting into garage, starter won’t work.”

Filling Trucks

In Muscatine on Thursday, March 6, 1952, Dale wrote,” Worked 8 – 4:30.  King went home sick at 11:20 A.M.  Mead called home at 12:30 P.M. – wife sick.  I worked in distillery in afternoon.  Tried to find out about overflow pipe in CO2 WW tank.  Thawing most of day.  Filled 7 trucks.”

Internal Revenue Bonded Warehouse

In Muscatine on Wednesday, March 5, 1952, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 – 4:30.  Worked on IRBW inventory all day.  Zero at 7 A.M.  32° above at 2 P.M.  Left car on street, too much snow to get it in garage.  Letter from Mother.”

Ten Inches Of Snow

In Muscatine on Tuesday, March 4, 1952, after ten inches of snow fell overnight, Dale got stuck driving out of the garage behind our house on East Seventh Street and had to shovel snow a half-block downhill in the alley to Mulberry Avenue to go to work.  The next day, he left the car parked on the street and wrote, “Too much snow to get it in garage.”

Baked Poultry

In Muscatine on Sunday, March 2, 1952, Dale wrote, “Snow all day.  David swept our walk off & rang bell at 7:30 A.M. to tell us.  Nice restful day.  Had baked chicken supper.  TV at night.  Worked on income tax.”

Saturday Matinee

In Muscatine on Saturday, March 1, 1952, Dale wrote, “Non-work day.  Dalene & I went to a show in afternoon.  Picked up ironing & went to store.  Bright cold day.”

Dale Gets Shot

In Muscatine on Thursday, February 28, 1952, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  I got a shot at Dr. Swayze’s for my cold.  Letter from Wilma.”  Wilma was a sister of Helen’s.

TV Boxing

In Muscatine on Wednesday, February 27, 1952, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 – 4:30.  Nice bright day.  Brought medicine & groceries home at noon.  Stan home, sick in afternoon.  Paid bills $6 books, $5 Stein, $24 on furniture balance, $60 rent.  TV at night, good boxing.”

Helen Blows A Fuse

In Muscatine on Monday, February 25, 1952, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 – 4:30.  Nice bright day.  Helen blew a fuse washing.  I came home for lunch & fixed fuse.  Stopped at Grimm’s Drug for medicine.  TV at night.  To bed late.”

Roast Beef Again

In Muscatine on Sunday, February 24, 1952, Dale wrote, “Lazy day, resting.  I got a sick leave slip signed by Dr. Swayze in the morning.  Had roast beef dinner.  Dalene played out doors.”  Dale was getting over the flu.

Saturday Matinee

In Muscatine on Saturday, February 23, 1952, Dale wrote, “Non-work day.  Snow today.  Took Helen & Stan to Dr. Emerson.  To store & library.  Dalene & Judy went to a show in afternoon.  TV at night.”  Judy was a neighbor friend.

Shop Class Project

In Muscatine on Friday, February 22, 1952, Dale wrote “Holiday.  Wrote Mother a card.  Took Helen to Dr. Lease for her teeth.  I got a cold shot at Dr. Swayze’s new office.  Stan worked all day at high school on a project for shop class.”

Tax Return

In Muscatine on Thursday, February 21, 1952, Dale wrote, “8 hours sick leave.  Still have the flu.  Bushery here at supper time.  Helen washed her hair.  I made out our 1951 Federal income tax return.  Card from Mother.  TV at night.”

Snow Flurries

In Muscatine on Wednesday, February 20, 1952, Dale wrote, “8 hours sick.  Talked to Hayes on phone, he was at plant.  Snow flurries on & off.  Stan had nose bleed at school.”

Will This Ever End?

In Muscatine on Tuesday, February 19, 1952, Dale wrote, “8 hours sick with flu, but better.  Helen took Stan to Dr. Emerson again.  Ed Weis delivered groceries.  Benson called to say Hayes is in town.  Rain & dreary.  TV at night.”

Doctor’s House Call

In Muscatine on Monday, February 18, 1952, Dale took the day off and wrote, “I’m sick with flu.  Took Stan to Dr. Emerson for ear and nose.  I’m in bed most all day.  Dr. Swayze stopped by at 7 p.m. and gave me a shot.”

Good Sunday Supper

In Muscatine on Sunday, February 17, 1952, Dale wrote “Took Stan to Dr. Swayze for a shot.  Dalene & I took a ride to the airport.  15° above at 8 A.M.  40° in the afternoon.  Dalene & Sonja went to a show in the afternoon.  I have a sore throat.  Had good roast beef supper.”  Sonja was a friend.

I Don’t Feel Good

In Muscatine on Saturday, February 16, 1952, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 – 4:30.  Traded non-work days with Owens.  Loaded 9 trucks.  Helen took Stan in taxi to Dr. Emerson for his ear.  Dalene stayed home alone.  TV at night.  I have a head cold.”
