In Muscatine on Saturday, September 30, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Mild & sunny.  Went to store after work.  Took Stanley to Dr. Swayze to remove Planter’s wart on bottom of foot.  Went to Benson’s at 9 P.M. to watch TV.”

More Football

In Muscatine on Friday, September 29, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 6 P.M.  Lofgren took Stanley & I to a football game, Muscatine 21 – Keokuk 6.  Listened to Iowa beat Southern California 20 – 14.  Up until 1:30 A.M.  Warm ideal fall day today.”

Getting Shot

In Muscatine on Thursday, September 28, 1950, Dale wrote, “I took this as a non-work day.  Took Helen & Dalene to the doctor for shots in the morning.  To the store in the afternoon.  Kids & I went to a show at night.”

Joe Louis Loses

In Muscatine on Wednesday, September 27, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Warm day.  I came home for dinner.  Bowled at night, lost 2.  Ezzard Charles won heavyweight title over Joe Louis.  To bed late.”  Joe Louis is left above, and Ezzard Charles is right above.

Bird House

In Muscatine on Tuesday, September 26, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Got 2 more prescriptions filled for Helen.  Kids home from school today.  I came home for dinner.  I got supper.  Stanley finished his house.  Listened to the radio at night.”  I made a birdhouse for shop class.

Happy Birthday, Girls

In Muscatine on Monday, September 25, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Dalene is 8 years old today.  Took Helen to Dr. Swayze for shots for cough.  Didn’t do much good.  Kids went to a show.  Moon eclipse tonight.  Lloyd & Clarice’s baby girl Mary born today.”

‘Union Station’

In Muscatine on Sunday, September 24, 1950, Dale wrote, “Up at 8 & read the paper.  I got breakfast.  Washed the car.  Went to a show, ‘Union Station.’  Had canned chicken for dinner.  46° this morning.  To bed early.  Mother is 69 today.”

Radio (No TV)

In Muscatine on Saturday, September 23, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Nice day.  Dalene got a pencil from Mother.  Stanley & I went downtown at night for pills for Helen.  Listened to the radio at night.”

Muskie Football

In Muscatine on Friday, September 22, 1950, Dale wrote, “Non-work day.  Stayed home & slept part of the day.  Took Helen & Dalene to the doctor for coughs.  Took Lofgren to high school football game at night, Muscatine 6 – Burlington 6.  Good game.”  Mr. Lofgren was a co-worker.

Doc’s House Call

In Muscatine on Thursday, September 21, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Shipped 6 tank cars & 3 tank trucks today.  Letter from home.  Sent Mother a birthday card.  Had the doctor here for Helen’s cough.  Stan & I went to a show at night.”  Dale’s mother Jettie would be 69 years old on the 24th.

Dale Goes Bowling

In Muscatine on Wednesday evening, September 20, 1950, Dale went bowling with his team.  He had a 421 series, raising his average to 156.

Oh, Misery

In Muscatine on Tuesday, September 19, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Hemerson at plant.  Loaded 4 tank cars & 3 tank trucks.  Cooled off before noon.  I have a head cold, so does Helen.  To bed early.”

Raincoat Shopping

In Muscatine on Monday, September 18, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 7 to 3:30.  Stan, Dalene & I drove to Davenport after raincoats – no coats.  I went to a show at night & then to the plant to help Dawson for 1 hour from 11:30 to 12:30.”

Home Of Wild Cats?

On Saturday, September 16, 1950, Dale wrote that he and Dalene took our dog Ringer on a ride from Muscatine to Wild Cat Den State Park (about 12 miles east of town).

Fish For Lunch

In Muscatine on Friday, September 15, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Filled 4 tank cars & 3 tank trucks today.  Wrote 3 page weekly report.  Lofgren & I had a pint of ice cream.  Had fish for lunch.  Kids & I went to a show at night.  Helen has asthma.”

Painting

In Muscatine on Thursday, September 14, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Got a haircut.  Dawson, Fred King, Jack Owens & I painted 3 hours at Jack’s house.  Bought pads for shoes.  Warm & bright today.”

Car Is Paid For

In Muscatine on Wednesday, September 13, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Pay day.  Paid last $50 to Louie for car.  Paid $12.70 state income tax.  Paid $10 to Montgomery Ward, $7.11 telephone bill.  Bowled 506 series, highest game 187.  Kids went to a show.”  That 1939 Mercury is finally theirs, bought from Helen’s brother Louie.

At The Library

In Muscatine on Tuesday, September 12, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Rainy today.  Took Stanley to school.  Stayed at plant till 6:30 showing Bushery records.  Took Helen & Dalene to library.  Had supper at 8 P.M.  To bed at 10 P.M.”

In Muscatine on Monday, September 11, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Rainy today.  Traded spare tires with King.  Went to Reynolds to look at television, no good.  Bushery called from the plant about a leaky tank car.  To bed at 11 P.M.”
