Up, Up In The Air

In Muscatine on Sunday, September 10, 1950, Dale wrote, “Took kids to the airport.  They took a plane ride with a trailer salesman.  Thrilled them both.”

Drive-In Movie

In Muscatine on Saturday, September 9, 1950, Dale wrote, “Up at 7 A.M.  Dalene & I took ride with Ringer to Weed Park.  Bought this four-color pencil < he wrote this entry in green, red, blue >.  Went to store in the afternoon, kids to a show.  Kids & I to a show at night at the drive-in.”  Ringer was our dog.

Project Nails

In Muscatine on Friday, September 8, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Had to unload 2 tank trucks, leak & overload.  Hemerson still here.  I got some plans to correct too.  Brought lumber & nails to Stanley.  Kids & I to a show at night.”

Lumber Project

In Muscatine on Thursday, September 7, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Filled 2 tank cars & 2 tank trucks.  Hemerson here regarding plans.  Saw Bud Phillips today.  Brought boards home for Stanley.”

Bowling Night

In Muscatine on Wednesday, September 6, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Filled 4 tank cars & 2 tank trucks.  Nice day.  Cashed a bond.  Paid Blue Cross.  Kids to show at night & Helen & I to bowling alley.  Bowled 482.  To bed late.”

Back To School

On Tuesday, September 5, 1950, the first day of school, Dale wrote that Stanley started eighth grade at Muscatine Junior High School (above left), and Dalene started third grade at Jefferson Elementary School (above right).

Laundry Day

In Muscatine on Monday, September 4, 1950, Dale wrote, “Holiday; worked 8 – 4:30.  Double time.  Bushery rented an apartment.  Fred King sealed tank trucks all day.  Helen washed clothes today.”

Back To Muscatine

In Muscatine on Sunday, September 3, 1950, Dale wrote, “Up at 7:30 & had a nice forenoon visit with the folks & Marie.  Left Osceola at 2 P.M. for Muscatine & got here at 6 P.M.  Stanley went to a show with Carl Strauss at night.”  Marie was Dale’s sister.

Summer Vacation’s End

On Saturday, September 2, 1950 Dale took neighbor boy Jimmy Smith and drove from Muscatine to Osceola to pick Stanley up.  Dale wrote, “Went in to town early and stayed all evening.  Took George and Wilma home and had coffee and cake and ice cream.”  Helen’s sister Wilma was married to George Casey.
