In Muscatine on Sunday, October 22, 1950, Dale wrote, “Ralph & Marie & Susan left about 11 A.M.  Took Stanley to Carl Strauss’s farm in the afternoon.  Dalene & I went to a show.  I worked on the refrigerator after supper.  Cooler.”  Dale’s sister Marie was married to Ralph Kimmel; Susan was their daughter.

In Muscatine on Thursday, October 19, 1950, Dale wrote, “Non-work day.  Helen and I looked at a house by Weed Park.  School too unhandy.  Mr. Wing called from the plant.  We all went to Bushery’s at night to watch television.  Home at 10 P.M.”

Busy Day

In Muscatine on Wednesday, October 18, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Warm day.  Called St. Paul regarding painoting on trucks.  Bowled at night.  Took Helen to the library.  Saw boxing on television.”

Got The TV Itch

In Muscatine on Tuesday, October 17, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Worked with Bushery in the morning.  Took the family to Max Jelnik’s at night to watch television.  He has a 19″ Dumont set, very good, cost $600.  Home at 10:30 P.M.”  For black & white!

In Muscatine on Monday, October 16, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 7 to 3:30.  Mr. Wing visited the plant today and verified my interpretation of alternate operations.  I got some kindling from the plant.  Dalene & I went to Bushery’s at night a little while.”

In Muscatine on Sunday, October 15, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 7 – 3.  Worked for Fisher today.  Greased the car & changed oil at work.  Took Stan to the doctor about his sprained toe.  Took kids to ‘Tea for Two’ “

In Muscatine on Saturday, October 14, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Bushery bought a television set.  I wrote a 3 page report on alternative operations.  Went to the library & also watched skaters at new rink.”

Quick Trip

In Muscatine on Friday, October 13, Dale wrote, “Went over to Osceola by myself.  Had dinner at folks; washed mine and their cars.  Had supper at Wilma & George’s.  Got 21 miles to a gallon from 1939 Mercury.  Got back to Muscatine at 10:30 P.M.”  That was 180 miles each way.  Helen’s sister Wilma was married to George Casey.

A Nice Evening

In Muscatine on Tuesday, October 10, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Wing says we get no replacements for Benson & Dawson.  Went to the library after supper.  Busherys here at night until 11:15.  Nice evening.”

Car Window Handle Fixed

In Muscatine on Monday, October 9, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Pulled Arms’ car to start it.  Got my window handle fixed at work.  Listened to the radio at night.  48 degrees tonight.”

Nice Sunday

In Muscatine on Sunday, October 8, 1950, Dale wrote, “Slept till 10 A.M.  Kids went to a show in the afternoon.  Helen & I took a ride.  She feels better today than at any time for 2 months.  Stanley & I went to a show at night.  Cool out tonight.”

Purdue Upsets The Irish

In Muscatine on Saturday, October 7, 1950, Dale wrote, “Up at 8 & got my breakfast.  Went to the store.  Letter & pictures from Mother.  Went to Abney’s & saw Yankees win 4th straight World Series game.  Saw Purdue upset Notre Dame in football 28-14.”

Play Ball!

In Muscatine on Friday, October 6, 1950, Dale wrote, “Helped Dawson lock up till 1 A.M.  Watched World Series on Willie Haller’s TV set.  Good.  Took Helen for another shot.  Worked with Bushery till 8 p.m.  Warm day today.”

Getting Shot

In Muscatine on Thursday, October 5, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8:30 to 5.  Took  Dalene and Helen to Dr. Swayze for cold shots.  Went to a show at 9 P.M. and then to the plant to help Dawson lock up.”

A Light Day

In Muscatine on Wednesday, October 4, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8:30 to 5.  Very light day.  Fred King got dinner.  Very good.  Took Stanley, Jimmy Smith and Mary Ella to a show.  To bed at 11 P.M.  Letter from Marie.”  Jimmy and Mary Ella were neighbors; Marie was Dale’s sister.

‘Treasure Island’

In Muscatine on Monday, October 2, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Sent Lofgren’s leave slip in for 8 days.  Took Dalene to ‘Treasure Island’ at night.  Cooler.  Showers today.  Rent goes to $50 November 1st.”

My Blue Heaven

In Muscatine on Sunday, October 1, 1950, Dale and Helen took Stanley and Dalene to a show, “My Blue Heaven.”  The song by the same name was Dale and Helen’s favorite.

Out, Darn Spot

In Muscatine on Saturday, September 30, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 4:30.  Mild & sunny.  Went to store after work.  Took Stanley to Dr. Swayze to remove Planter’s wart on bottom of foot.  Went to Benson’s at 9 P.M. to watch TV.”

More Football

In Muscatine on Friday, September 29, 1950, Dale wrote, “Worked 8 to 6 P.M.  Lofgren took Stanley & I to a football game, Muscatine 21 – Keokuk 6.  Listened to Iowa beat Southern California 20 – 14.  Up until 1:30 A.M.  Warm ideal fall day today.”
